This Privacy Policy explains how ScanBeforeEat ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our food label and barcode scanning application and related services (the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy.

Account information: email address, display name, and authentication method (email/password or Google sign-in via our auth provider).

Profile information you choose to provide: language preference, diet preferences (e.g. vegan, Jain, gluten-free), and allergies you list in your profile.

Scan data: barcodes scanned, photos of food labels you upload, product names, ingredient lists, nutrition-related data, AI-generated health scores, warnings, and scan timestamps.

Technical data: authentication cookies or tokens, device/browser type, and basic usage logs needed to operate and secure the Service.

To create and manage your account and authenticate you.

To analyze food products and provide health scores, ingredient breakdowns, allergy warnings, and recommendations based on your profile.

To store your scan history so you can review past products.

To improve reliability, security, and performance of the Service.

To respond to support requests and legal obligations.

We use third-party services to operate the Service. These may process data on our behalf:

Firebase Authentication (Google) — account sign-in, including email/password and Google sign-in.

Resend — delivery of one-time verification codes to your email address.

Google Gemini — AI analysis of label images and ingredient text.

Open Food Facts — barcode lookups and public product information.

MongoDB Atlas — database hosting for accounts and scan history.

Cloudflare R2 — secure storage of label photos you upload.

Each third party has its own privacy practices. We share only the data necessary for them to perform their function.

ScanBeforeEat provides informational insights only. AI-generated scores and warnings are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Product labels and barcode databases may be incomplete or outdated. Always verify ingredients on the physical package, especially for allergies or dietary restrictions.

We retain your account and scan data while your account is active.

You can delete your account and associated data at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app, or by emailing us.

We may retain limited information where required by law or for legitimate security purposes.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data.

Use Delete Account in the app Profile screen, or contact us at the email below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is completely secure; please use a strong, unique password.

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
